Together with the Science Diplomats Club, the Office of Science and Technology organizes monthly Science Breakfasts, where a prominent member of the American science and technology community, speaks to an audience of counselors from embassies in Washington.
Since January 2007, these breakfasts have provided the 30-40 guests from 15-20 countries, with the opportunity to strengthen ties with American leaders in science and technology in a positive atmosphere. Visits from notable guests such as the Undersecretaries for Science in the Departments of Homeland Security and Energy as well as directors from NOAA, DARPA and the American Chemical Society have often led to further cooperation amongst their organizations.

Dr. Alice P. Gast, an internationally renowned scholar, researcher and academic leader, was appointed the 13th president of Lehigh University in 2006. She is also serving as the U.S. Science Envoy to Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan. She will give a presentation to and engage with the Science Diplomats Club of Washington, DC on June 14, 2012. Dr. Gast will discuss her experiences as Science Envoy to Central Asia and the Caucasus, focusing on the value of international education and the importance of science and technology diplomacy.
Kate Kirby is the Executive Officer of the American Physical Society (APS), the premier professional organization of more than 47,000 physicists from academia, national laboratories and industry, and a leading publisher of scientific journals.
