Météo France is recruiting for Visiting Scientist positions

The research department of the French Meteorological Service (METEO-FRANCE, Centre National de Recherches Météorologiques - CNRM) is offering visiting scientist positions for one year in its centers in Toulouse (southwestern France) and Grenoble (Alps). This opportunity is for post-doctorate graduates of any nationality except French.

Research areas are:

  • in Toulouse: synoptic and mesoscale observations assimilation, mesoscale numerical modeling and experiments, climate modeling and detection of climate change, convection, convective and synoptic scale predictability, nowcasting using NWP models, mid-latitude cyclogenesis study, atmospheric chemistry and air pollution forecasting, study and modelling of aerosols, urban meteorology, meteorological instrumentation, ground-based - airborne - and satellite-based remote sensing, hydrology.
  • in Grenoble: studies and modeling of snow cover, snow hydrology, snow cover in microstructure, processing of seismic signals generated by snow avalanches.

Applicants should send the following materials before April 4th:

  • a comprehensive CV, describing previous scientific activities
  • a proposal for a research project
  • letters of recommendation

Candidates will be brought into contact with a CNRM scientist who will help them define more precisely possible research programs.

Notice of a final decision will be given to applicants before the end of May 2008, for a position starting between October 1, 2008, and February 1, 2009.
