Application Process:

Step 1: You will need to have all materials listed below on hand before clicking on the link to fill out the application.

Materials needed for electronic application are as follows:

  • Personal information, contact information
  • List of publications
  • List of past fellowships received
  • List of degrees received, place and date
  • List of other fellowships for which you are applying
  • 3-5 page proposal describing your thesis project
    Note : The proposal can be written in French or English ; however, if you are applying as a literature student, it is suggested, but not obligatory that you fill out the application in French. It is better to fill out the application in correct English than to submit it in mediocre French.
  • 10 line summary IN FRENCH of your thesis subject
  • All contact information from host university


Step 2: Click on the following link and fill out the application.

When you first log on to the application you will be given a user ID. Please make sure to note the ID so that you can return to your application if you wish to before your final submission

Step 3: Please send the following required documents together to the French Embassy in Washington D.C.
  • an official transcript from each college or university that you have attended.
  • letter of recommendation from your advisor in the United States.
  • invitation letter from a professor in France.
