1. What are the benefits of the Chateaubriand Fellowship?
The Chateaubriand Fellowship provides doctorate students a financial support for 9 months of research in France. Along with health insurance, the fellow will receive a monthly allowance of about 1300 Euros and a round trip ticket to France.
2. Will I be able to field research during my stay in France? Yes, you will receive 30 days perdiem for travelling in France (only) for research purpose.
3. What are the requirements to apply for a Chateaubriand Fellowship?
You must be enrolled in an American university and must be currently working on your doctorate.
4. I am not a US citizen but I am enrolled in an American university. Am I eligible to apply for a Chateaubriand Fellowship?
Yes, you are. However, French citizens cannot apply.
5. Are the Chateaubriand Fellowship available for Master’s / Bachelor’s studies?
The Chateaubriand Fellowship is not available for Master’s or Bachelor’s Studies. It is only dedicated to PhD students.
6. Do I need to provide an English translation of the letter of invitation from the Professor in France?
No, you do not need to provide an English translation of the documents written in French.
7. May I provide several recommendation letters to my application?
One letter of recommendation is required from your adviser. Apart from it, you can send more than one letter, if you think it is necessary for your project. The recommendation letter of your adviser and the letter of invitation from a French professor are the most relevant ones.
8. What is the selection process?
An evaluator will first review your application. A grade will be given to your project. Then, a selection committee will meet and select the successful candidates.
9. Will receipt of my application and letter of recommendation be acknowledged?
When we receive your complete application (both on-line and per mail), we will send an email to notify it to you.
10. How soon after the jury meeting will I hear about the result?
The jury will meet at the end of February. If you are selected, an email will be sent to you. If not, you will be notified by mail, sent within 2 to 3 business days.
11. Does the Cultural Service of the French Embassy offer other funding to Doctoral students?
Doctoral and postdoctoral students are eligible to funding through the Partner University Fund (www.facecouncil.org/puf) when involved in a PUF-sponsored project at their home university.
